In Queensland there is a hierarchy of Courts. They are;
- Magistrates Court (Magistrate)
- District Court (Judge and Jury)
- Supreme Court (Judge and Jury)
All criminal offences no matter what the charge start in the Magistrates Court. Offences can be categorised according to their seriousness. This can depend upon;
- The impact of the offence on victims and;
- The monetary value of any loss or damage incurred
