Special Hardship Order (SHO)
A SHO is a court order which allows you to continue to drive under your Queensland driver’s licence when:
You have received a notice suspending your licence for the accumulation of demerit points; or
You have received a notice suspending your licence for a speeding offence.
A SHO will not be granted if during the last five years:
- your Queensland driver’s licence was suspended or cancelled
- you have previously made a SHO application
- a court has disqualified your licence.
The court must be satisfied that:
- you are a fit and proper person to continue to drive, having regard for the safety of other road users
- the refusal to grant a SHO would cause extreme hardship to you or your family, and be depriving you of your means of earning a living
- severe and unusual hardship to you or your family other than by depriving you of your means of earning a living.
